Lay vs. Lie
● lay
英譯:to put something down carefully in a flat position;It must have an object;It is a regular verb(lay, laid, laid)
解釋:放下(一定要有受詞)
例句:
I laid the tray at the door five minutes ago.(五分鐘前,我把托盤放在門口了。)
Can I lay my coat over the chair?(我可以把外套放在椅子上嗎?)
● lie
英譯:to put yourself into a flat position;It is an irregular verb(lie, lay, lain, lying);It doesn’t take an object.
解釋:躺下
例句:
I love to lie on a couch and read.(我喜歡躺在沙發上看書。)
He lay down and was asleep immediately.(他躺下後很快就睡著了。)
注:lie還可作「說謊」的意思,規則動詞三態:lie, lied, lied, lying
